The Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic is a globally recognized English language proficiency test designed for non-native English speakers who need to demonstrate their language skills for academic or professional purposes. PTE Academic Modules

  • Speaking and Writing (54-67 minutes) :
    • This section assesses your ability to speak and write in English in an academic environment.
    • Speaking Tasks Includes Personal Introduction, Read Aloud, Repeat Sentence, Describe Image, Re-tell Lecture, and Answer Short Question. These tasks evaluate your oral fluency, pronunciation, and ability to convey spoken information effectively.
    • Writing Tasks Comprise Summarize Written Text and Essay Writing. These tasks test your ability to organize ideas, use appropriate grammar, vocabulary, and write coherently.
  • Reading (29-30 minutes) : The Reading section evaluates your ability to read, interpret, and understand academic texts. It includes different types of questions, such as Multiple-choice, Re-order Paragraphs, Fill in the Blanks, and Reading & Writing: Fill in the Blanks. This module tests your reading comprehension skills, including understanding the structure of paragraphs, extracting main ideas, and vocabulary knowledge.
  • Listening (30-43 minutes) : The Listening section measures your ability to understand spoken English in an academic setting. You will be required to listen to a variety of audio clips and answer questions based on them. The tasks include Summarize Spoken Text, Multiple-choice, Fill in the Blanks, Highlight Correct Summary, Select Missing Word, Highlight Incorrect Words, and Write from Dictation. This module tests your listening comprehension, ability to follow spoken discourse, and understanding of spoken vocabulary and grammar.

PTE Academic Scoring

  • Overall Score : The overall score is the average of your scores in the Speaking, Writing, Reading, and Listening sections. It gives a comprehensive picture of your English language ability.
  • Communicative Skills Scores : These scores are provided for Speaking, Writing, Reading, and Listening individually. They help identify specific areas of strength and areas that may need improvement.
  • Enabling Skills Scores : These scores are detailed under categories like Grammar, Oral Fluency, Pronunciation, Spelling, Vocabulary, and Written Discourse. They provide further insights into your proficiency in specific language skills, offering a more granular understanding of your English abilities.
